when ski trips go South

i did ski today. and no, i'm not okay.  the first time i rode a blue, only my 3rd time down the mountain, i had a spectacular crash!  the hill was very icy due to rain all day yesterday, there was a sudden drop-off, and a kid turned into my path.  i lost control going about 20 or so mph, landed very hard on my left hip and back, crumpled up on my head, and all my equipment went flying.  people were asking if i was okay, right and left.  it was great.  but then i started getting up and realized that it wasn't great... i skied the rest of the day on this numb hip.  it was managable, and i made full use of my lift ticket for the rest of the day.  but when i got home, just a few minutes ago, and tried to get out of the car... Oh, Boy!  I could barely move my leg. And trying to climb the steps up to my apartment was killer.  I have to work tomorrow early, so i'll be taking a nice bath and some nice advil, and calling it quits for the day.

total drive time today: 5.5 hrs.
total ski time today: 5.5 hrs.
was it worth it? NO!  sorry.  i did have fun; it was the first time i've gone skiing in 2 years.  but the time-cost of driving, my "careless driving" ticket, and the lift/rental at Beech was WAY too much for a hurt hip and a bit of solo skiing.

which is it?

it's been all the ranting rage this holiday season... thanks a lot, Bill O'Reilly (I really dislike that guy). what should we actually be calling "it"?  should the annual Decembrish shalom be "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays"?

personally, i like the sound of "Happy Christmas!" best.  Merry is falling out of regular usage; unless you want to be designating Frodo's friend or citing the traditional holiday hello.  that, and the word "happy" is almost onomatopoeia.  when you say it, you can't help but be cheerful and smiling.  c'mon, you know i'm truthing here...  try it!

Five Guys

Can't remember if i mentioned "Five Guys" before or not...  I came up with an idea over the summer to do a sitcom about 5 guys who run a burger joint called "Five Guys".  So some of my friends and I have gone nuts storyboarding and brainstorming about what we're gonna do.  We are probably gonna podcast by video, but the timeline is still up in the air.  We're so bogged down with schoolwork right now...  But the break is here so we should get some good work done on scripting and stuff.  I'll keep you up to date on the progress of the show.

Incongruence

So I was walking into my room the other day, say around 9 o' clock or so, and the lights were off. It was really dark in there, so I decided I should probably turn the light on. So I walked back to the doorway, and flipped the switch, knowing that the light would probably come on. And do you know what? The flippin' switch made the light come on! Ingenious! Well, needless to say, that marvel pleased me much.

And, stupid me, I was so caught up in the moment that I totally forgot that I still had my shoes on. You know how it is sometimes: you some into the room and turn on the light and completely forget that your shoes are on. Boy, I tell you! 

Anyways, to get back to my story, I was so annoyed at myself for forgetting to take my shoes off that I went over to my chair to take them off before I walked around my room anymore with them on. Well, in order to do that I had to walk across the room; each step being taken by feet that still had shoes on. I got angrier and angrier with each step. 

Let me take an aside here and comment that they (whoever "they" are) really need to come up with a better solution for taking your shoes off (or for that fact, remembering in the first place that they are still on) when you come into a room. By this time I was smoking mad! I was totally ticked off!

You know those times when you are half-way about to sit in a chair, when your bum is hovering just past the point of no return, when gravity is just taking over for your leg muscles, and you realize: "Hmm, I'm probably coming down too hard for this particular chair. I should have thought about this a few milliseconds sooner, that way I could have properly adjusted my final approach. Oh well, here goes nothing. I'm sure I'm about to break this thing. (Insert appropriate battle cries here)”

Well... that didn't happen. I didn’t think about it.

The chair held, my shoes came off okay, and I'm getting over, albeit slowly, walking in my room with my shoes still on.

China trip has a new guide

My roommate works in WebTech @ BJ.  They just put up a new page for a trip to China being led by former BJ President Bob Jones III and his wife Benneth.  I want to go sooo much!!!  It would be totally awesome. I'd take thousands of pictures.  But unfortunately, there is the little constraint called the $2115 for the price of the trip (not including airfare to China).  It's soo unfair!

Why do I have to pay?  Why can't Dr. Bob pay; he has money.  Then I can lead the trip!

I can see it now...  "Hey people, look at that. That's so cool. I wish I knew more about it, other than it's being cool.  Quick someone, take a picture of that!  ...  And look at that big thingy there, wow!  Don't know what it is but it sure is big and neat! ... Okay people, we're now going to visit this place I heard was really cool!  Wish i could tell you more, but you'll see for yourselves how cool it is!"

The Able-bodied Seaman

Heard a joke recently and laughed out loud.  I know Cory will like it, at least.

An able-bodied seaman meets a pirate in a bar, and they they take turns recounting their adventures at sea. Noting the pirate's peg-leg, hook, and eye patch the seaman asks:
"So, how did you end up with the peg-leg?"
The pirate replies:
"We was caught in a monster storm off the cape and a giant wave swept me overboard. Just as they were pullin' me out, a school of sharks appeared and one of 'em bit me leg off."

"Blimey!" said the seaman. "What about the hook?"
"Ahhhh..." mused the pirate, "We were boardin' a trader ship, pistols blastin' and swords swingin' this way and that. In the fracas me hand got chopped off."

"Zounds!" remarked the seaman. "And how came ye by the eye patch?"
"A seagull droppin' fell into me eye," answered the pirate.
"You lost your eye to a seagull dropping?" the sailor asked incredulously.
"Well..." said the pirate, "..it was me first day with the hook.."
