Who Else?

That means that Mighty Mouse is on his way."

Certainly don't think it blasphemous. Besides, Jesus wasn't the first or last Messiah figure anyway. There were other folks claiming to be the Messiah around the time of Christ, too - they just didn't benefit from the apostle Paul's popularizing them!

bob, could you name one other Messiah claimant who proved themselves to be God without a doubt like Jesus did?

sounds like you are flaimbait, Bob? try working with in my framework of Superman=Jesus.

Bob

"could you name one other Messiah claimant who proved themselves to be God without a doubt like Jesus did?"

You presume that we all agree Jesus was a/the Messiah. Billions of people would disagree with that statement.

There have been many people down through the ages who claimed to be a/the Messiah. That much is irrefutable. We can't even know for sure if Jesus really did claim to be the Messiah, BTW; we rely entirely on material (conflicting accounts) written decades after his death or disappearance.

Flamebait? I point out a clear historical fact and I'm flaimbait? Is that all it takes to enflame a fundamentalist?

I'm just asking you to actually think about and be willing to question what you believe. That's healthy.

Bob, I asked you once to stick within my question's limits: Superman=Jesus. If you do not quite understand it, I have brought up the ligitimacy of equating by analogy a popular mythological hero, Superman, with the epitome of the traditional Christ-figure, Jesus Christ himself. I do not wish to argue a point that is not within the bounds I have established.

Yet...

You ask me to be open to other views and "think about and be willing to question what [I] believe." I am sorry, Bob, I cannot question what God has convinced me of in my heart of hearts, that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, promised Messiah, and Savior of the world. I will die for that, because it is the very heart of what I believe; I believe it that much. I do understand where you are coming from though, that you do not believe what Jesus has proved irrefutably: He is Messiah, sent from God, Light of the World. I suggest you read John 9; understanding Christ's claims would help you in your quest for truth; verse 25 is very powerful, but read especially verse 28ff: it fits our debate perfectly. The man born blind but now seeing (me) defends himself against the revilers (you) who question Jesus' ligitimacy as Messiah. The blind/now seeing man responds: "Why, this is an amazing thing! You do not know where he comes from, and yet he opened my eyes. We know that God does not listen to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. Never since the world began has it been heard that anyone opened the eyes of a man born blind. If this man were not from God, he could do nothing” (John 9:20-33).

Bob, believe the report of this poor man made whole by Jesus Christ. Believe that Jesus is Christ and God and be saved!

How about in Michael Sembello's song "Superman" it refers to a savior that we havent seen in 2000 years. (like Jesus) but then says he's faster than a speeding bullet, and one line "And the last time he came they cursed his name. With a Kryptonite Cross they cut him down."

Lee :)
